              Gyermekét ébren őrző,
vak éjtől mit se félő asszony, Mária!
jászolban mélyen alvó,
kisdede fölé hajló asszony, Mária!

Ki két karodban ringatgattad,
hideg széltől eltakartad Őt, ég és föld Urát,
s ki félted, óvod minden bajtól,
azóta is minden asszony védtelen, apró magzatát.

  Virrassz még, Mária, virrassz még,
míg vaksötét az éj, óvd a gyermek életét!
  Virrassz még, Mária, virrassz még,
míg fényét küldi újra ránk az ég!
